Immunization Advocacy Goals

Civil society has now rallied around a new Immunization Advocacy Goals framework, presenting a menu of advocacy options to improve access to vaccines around the world.

The framework’s five goals unite civil society – from implementers in Afghanistan, to research and development advocates in Australia – under shared goals that provide an intellectual underpinning for local, regional, and global advocacy on immunizations.

The five goals are:

  1. Every child, woman and man receives life-saving vaccines and there is equitable progress towards achieving the universal right to immunisation.
  2. Access to immunisation is expanded through genuine country ownership and good global governance in which the priorities of populations in high-burden areas drive the agenda and progress is measured annually as part of Global Vaccine Action Plan (GVAP) implementation.
  3. Full funding for universal access to immunisation is raised in a sustainable manner.
  4. Appropriate vaccines and delivery mechanisms are available at prices that are affordable, acceptable, appropriate and sustainable for countries in the long term.
  5. Vaccination is delivered through country health systems, catalyses improvements in Primary Health Care services and strengthens health systems, including community health systems.

Partners that played a central role in developing the framework include: ACTION, Global Health Advocates, the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC), RESULTS UK, Save the Children, the GAVI Alliance and all of the GAVI CSO Constituency member organizations who contributed to these advocacy goals.

Well researched and organized, helpful framework

These five goals for immunization efforts worldwide are a helpful rallying point, made stronger both by the fact that hundreds of organizations were consulted in the development of the piece, as well as because of the helpful proposed objectives and methods bulleted after each goal. Great piece for discussion for those in the immunization field.
